Zipper Confidence - David Macseoinin

This is a hands on seminar, you'll learn how to easily and professionally insert 3 different types of zippers. There are many tricks and tips to help you get over your fear of inserting a zipper, once you learn these you'll be able to go further with your sewing projects!
Supplies: 1/2 yard of Shirting weight fabric, three 7" zippers, thread, *Basic Sewing Supplies.

MACHINE SEWING CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
Each of our Machine Sewing classes teach you the skills and techniques to bring your sewing skills to a more professional level.
When the class asks for them, please bring along *Basic Sewing Notions* including: a pair of good fabric scissors, measuring and marking tools, seam ripper, straight pins, machine and hand sewing needles and paper/pencil. Don't forget to pre-wash your fabric according to manufacturers directions.
If you would like to use one of our sewing machines for class let us know.
(you'll need to come early to wind a bobbin and become familiar with the machine)
If you plan on bringing along your machine make sure it is in good working condition and you are confident sewing on it. Make sure you are using the correct needle and please wind a bobbin ahead of time. Don’t forget the power cord, foot pedal and manual!

Machine Sewing Skills 1 - Introduction to the Sewing Machine - Martha Lombardi
2 Hours - $25.00

Even if you've sewn before, there are all sorts of trips and tricks that will make your time at the machine easier and more creative. There's lots to learn for even seasoned sewers. Learn the basics of how the machine works, how to avoid problems like birds nests' and what to do when you run into problems. Learn what the tension guides are and why they are so important, how to correctly thread a machine and wind bobbins. Find out what the different settings do and how to best use them. Learn to understand what the different stitches are for, practice seam allowances and many tips and tricks on using a machine. Learn about the many threads, sewing machine needles and which ones go with what fabric. Understand bias and how to use the straight of grain to create a better piece. This class is chock full of things you never knew!
You'll make a cute stitched note card.

Machine Sewing Skills 2 - Beginning Sewing - Martha Lombardi

Have you used a sewing machine, know how to thread and sew? Maybe you’ve made a few simple things but you want to take the skills you've learned in Machine Sewing 1 to a higher level. Gain more confidence; learn the fastest and easiest pinning techniques, even gathering and rotary cutting skills. Learn the difference between ironing and pressing along with pivoting and professionally finishing a project with a clean hem. Learn to topstitch and do some decorative stitching to gain more confidence.
Make a cute apron using your newfound skills.

building a wardrobe - Dave Macseoinin
Are you ready to learn how to create a professionally made wardrobe that actually fits? Don't ever be disappointed with another garment, you can do this! Work with Dave the Tailor and learn all of techniques and skills that professionals use to adjust a pattern, manipulate fabric, take measurements and perfectly fit a garment. This series will take you through simple steps that will change the way you sew.
Look for more classes building off of each other.....fitted skirt, simple blouse, blouse with collar and cuffs, fitted pants, simple jacket, lined jacket and more.

Learn to fit a skirt from a commercial pattern
Two - 2 Hour classes - $45.00
Take a commercial skirt pattern and learn to adjust it for a perfect fit. You'll learn to measure correctly along with cutting, sewing and finishing techniques that will make this your favorite skirt. There are so many little tips you will learn, these skills will carry on to the next classes and your future sewing. Please wear close fitting clothes for measuring.

Blouse-it - learn to fit a simple blouse/shirt from a commercial pattern

Learn how to create a blouse pattern that fits you to a T by taking a commercial pattern and adjusting it for your body. This is a simple blouse/shirt, that will give you the confidence to create a beautiful dart and collar, along with top-stitching and button holes.

Freemotion by Machine – Martha Lombardi
Three - 2 hour classes - $45.00

Freemotion Embroidery/Quilting is drawing and painting with thread on your sewing machine. Use this technique for finally quilting that finished top, personalizing an item and all sorts of embellishments. There are so many beautiful threads, yarns and ribbons, the options are unlimited. Learn to feel comfortable drawing with your machine and then go on to more untraditional materials to create your own artwork.

Learn to Quilt from Designing to Binding - Martha Lombardi
Four - 2 Hour classes - $50.00
Starting with choosing the blocks to what fabric to use for the backing, sewing a pieced quilt uses many different skills. We'll start at the beginning with your fabric, which color to use where, go to rotary cutting and then different ways to piece your blocks. Once the top is pieced and sewn together you'll learn how to finish your quilt with stitch in the ditch quilting and create a beautiful binding. This small quilt is perfect for a baby or a lap quilt. Use Fabric from your stash or purchase something special. Call Martha for recommendations or with any questions.
Please be a confident machine sewer for this class, Machine Sewing Skills 1 and 2 are recommended.

Learn Foundation Paper Piece Quilting - Martha Lombardi
Two – 2 1/2 Hour classes - $45.00

This method was used to create those beautiful Crazy Quilts our great-grandmothers made with scraps of fabric, the ultimate recycling project. Learn to utilize paper foundations with fabrics from your stash and you'll never have to fussy cut to make a perfect point again. What an easy way to save on frustration and time. We’ll make 4 squares, sew them together and stitch in the ditch to make a darling little pillow. Pattern and foundation paper included with class.
Supplies – approx ¼ yard each of at least 4 different coordinating 100% cotton pre washed fabrics, with an extra ½ yard for the back of the pillow, a 12”x12” pillow form, 100% cotton thread to match and *Basic Sewing Your machine or ours.

Knitting 1 - Learn to Knit - Martha Lombardi
Two - 2 hour classes - $35.00

In this class you will learn to knit the Continental way. In Continental knitting you hold the working yarn in your left hand and "scoop" the yarn with your right knitting needle. Whether you want to learn to knit or you are a seasoned knitter, this class will teach you a fast and efficient way to knit. If you know how to knit both English (throwing) and Continental Knitting you can do color work, double knitting and backwards knitting too. You will practice the technique and make a scarf in this class.
Supplies – Size 9 - 10 knitting needles - 7" long, Skein of worsted weight simple wool yarn, approx 200 yards.

Knitting 2 - Knitting Basics, Lacy Scarf- Martha Lombardi
Two- 2 hour classes - $40.00

Now you know how to knit, what next? Why not get out of that garter stitch and make a pretty, lacy scarf. Take your knitting skills further and learn how to make a simple increase and decrease stitch, read a simple chart, different cast on's and bind off's, make a nice finished edge and learn new tips and tricks to make your knitting easier. Crochet 1 - Learn to Crochet - Martha Lombardi

Have you seen how crochet has changed? It’s not just granny squares any more. Learn to chain, single. half double, double and triple crochet along with tips on holding the hook and tensioning.
Supplies - About 100 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn and a size H Susan Bates Crochet hook, paper and pencil.

Crochet 2 - Crochet Basics, Market Bag – Martha Lombardi
Two - 2 hour classes $35.00

Create a darling market bag to use over and over. Cotton yarn makes this bag perfect to roll up and keep in your car or the bottom of your purse to pull out whenever you need it. As long as you can crochet a chain and single crochet you can make this bag.
You will learn to increase, decrease, the magic circle to start the bag and gain more confidence.
Supplies – Size H crochet hook and approx. 300 yds. Of worsted weight 100%cotton yarn.

Everybody has Unfinished Fiber Objects. There’s that knitting project you stashed at the very back of the closet. Some of us have lots of them. Get them out and bring them to this group class at Craft Akron. Bring along your knitting project, pattern, needles, extra yarn etc. If you are stuck, we will help you get started, if you don’t like it, we will help you redesign it.
Supplies- Makes sure you bring with you your UFO, pattern, needles, extra project yarn, scissors, and other supplies for knitting projects.

Spinning Wheel Classes - Heather Quinones
One on One, call Craft Akron to schedule - $25.00/hr

Spinning wheels are relaxing way to create specialty yarns with most types of fiber. Classes are designed based on your skill level. For beginner you will learn how to prepare your fiber for spinning, start to get a feel for the use of a spinning wheel, and have a small ball of yarn to show off for your work. For intermediate we go into plying of the yarn, adding inclusions (sparkles and yarn bits), and using some specialty fibers. We can arrange advance classes based on what you would like to learn. There are 2 wheels for class use, but if you have your own you are encouraged to bring it along. These classes are typically one on one, but I can accommodate 2 people.
Supplies – all materials are part of the cost of the class including Jacob and Border Liecaster wool

Drop Spindling- Heather Quinones
3 hour class - $45.00

Come and join Heather Quinones for a relaxing evening learning the art of creating your yarn with a drop spindle. You will be working with Jacob wool and Border Liecaster wool. The class will show you how to prepare the wool for spinning, use a drop spindle, and how to ply your new yarn. At the end of the class you will walk out with a drop spindle, will, written instructions, and possibly a new addiction to a new craft.

Supplies: approx 400 yds of worsted weight yarn with a bit of nylon for stretch, tapestry needle, scissors, and a set of 5 Double Pointed Needles - size 5 to 7. This Pattern is for a basic medium sized sock; use a smaller or larger set of needles to adjust the finished sock size.
